Our history


La Fernandière is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year in a big way! To highlight our passion for quality products and bold flavours, in April 2023 we’ll be launching a new combo with two exciting new sausage flavours – Buffalo and Smoked Meat Pickle! – which pair to perfection with a Lagarousse beer, from the Lagabière microbrewery in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

That’s not all, a lot of our sausages will find the perfect pairing with more
Lagabière products.


Founded in 1948 in Trois-Rivières by two close friends, Fernand Colbert and Fernand Pratte, La Fernandière is a family business that’s been run by three generations of Colberts.

While in the beginning La Fernandière produced cretons and boudin, Jimmy Colbert, who took over from his father Fernand in 1982, expanded the product line to include different types of sausages, head cheese and other charcuterie. His new partner, Marc Lafontaine, a marketing specialist, worked to develop the brand and the market as well as the company’s first distinctive new flavours.

In 2005, a new partner joined the La Fernandière ranks. With a background in management, accounting and tax, Yanick Gervais, grandson of co-founder Fernand Colbert, contributed to expanding the business by optimizing its management and production processes.

The company’s growth is marked by several milestones, including the arrival of vegetable casings in 2008, which reduced production costs, and the construction of a new plant, three times bigger and with leading-edge technology, in 2012.

For 75 years now, La Fernandière has been growing its one-of-a-kind industry know-how while never missing a chance to renew itself and offer its customers the most flavourful products.

The quality of our products is what made our reputation, as has our bold new offerings on the market. Recall the very first combos released in 2008, exclusive to La Fernandière. We were also the first to launch stew meat, meatloaf, skinless sausages and fresh cocktail sausages… as well as our unique limited-time offerings like cheeseburger sausages, or our association with notable brands like Saint-Guillaume cheeses and Bernard maple syrup.

In 2022, La Fernandière is undergoing renewal once again: a new look, new ways of regrouping our products, new sausage flavours and new ready-to-cook additions to our line-up.
